IMDG · IMCO · DANGEROUS GOODS
Nine classes. A shared language of safety.
Often called “IMCO cargo” in shipping, packaged dangerous goods at sea are covered by the IMDG Code. Start with the class, then check the exact cargo entry.

127 reference PDFs
Match the SDS to your product.
MSDS is the older name commonly used for the safety data sheet. Match manufacturer, product code, grade / concentration and revision. These original reference PDFs open on DatamSea or publisher websites; obtain the current sheet for your actual cargo from its supplier.
All files in this list have 16 numbered sections. Section 14 contains transport information; check the applicable mode, UN, shipping name, class and packing group there.

16 sections · Transport: Section 14
Section 14 says “Not a DOT controlled material”. This is a DOT statement, not an IMDG classification. Confirm sea-transport status with the supplier for the exact solid-rubber grade; this sheet does not cover ammonia-preserved latex.
This sheet states “Not Dangerous Good (<100lbs)” for IMDG and also identifies the substance as a marine pollutant. The quantity qualification is essential; do not apply this entry to larger consignments.
Section 14 lists UN3257, Class 9 for elevated-temperature transport; it also states that this product is not dangerous for conveyance at ambient temperature. Match the grade, shipping temperature and physical state. This sheet does not cover every bitumen grade, cutback or emulsion.
The IMDG entry is UN3077, Class 9, packing group III, marine pollutant. Section 14 includes a small-package exemption subject to its stated conditions. This is the 25% ACTARA formulation, not technical-grade thiamethoxam.

BEYOND THE CLASS LABEL
Additional marks you may see
These communicate extra requirements. They are not additional classes.
Marine pollutant
Fish-and-tree mark. An additional environmental marking, not a tenth hazard class.
Battery mark
Rectangular mark with the applicable UN number(s), for shipments meeting the relevant provisions. It is different from label 9A.
Limited quantity — LQ
Sea-transport limited-quantity mark. Eligibility and package limits depend on the specific entry; small cargo is not automatically exempt.
Excepted quantity — EQ
A separate small-quantity regime with its own limits and conditions; not the same as LQ.
Package orientation
Upright arrows where required. These do not replace hazard labels.
Elevated temperature
Additional marking for qualifying elevated-temperature cargo.
OVERPACK identification, fumigation warnings and cooling-agent/asphyxiation warnings may also apply. Confirm marks for the actual package, container and journey.
READ THE CARGO DETAILS
Class is only the beginning.
A class number describes the kind of hazard. It does not identify a product, assign a packing group or confirm that two cargoes can travel together.
UN number
A four-digit transport identifier. Use the confirmed entry, not a guessed number based on the trade name.
Proper Shipping Name · PSN
The prescribed transport name; a commercial name may be different. A technical name may also be required.
Primary + subsidiary hazards
A substance can need more than one hazard label. Both affect shipment planning.
Packing Group · PG
Where assigned: I = high danger, II = medium, III = low. Not every class or article has a packing group.
Label vs placard
Package labels and container placards have different application and size requirements. Do not enlarge a specimen and assume it is compliant.
Segregation & acceptance
Review the exact UN entry, subsidiary hazards and special provisions with trained staff and the carrier.
BATTERY CARGO
Tell us which battery, and how it travels.
Specify chemistry, standalone / packed with equipment / contained in equipment, capacity and condition. Provide the applicable test summary and supporting documents. Damaged, defective, waste or prototype batteries need separate review. Amendment 42-24 also introduces sodium-ion and battery-powered vehicle entries.

A preparation checklist, not a Dangerous Goods Declaration or an acceptance certificate. Final classification and documents must be confirmed by the shipper and trained personnel; transport is subject to carrier and route approval.
A few useful distinctions
What is the difference between SDS and MSDS?
MSDS is the older name. SDS is the standardized safety data sheet format, usually organized in 16 sections. Request the current document for the exact product and supplier.
How do I find an acetone or ethanol SDS?
Search the library by Persian or English name, CAS, UN or product code. Compare the manufacturer, grade, concentration and document date before using a reference file for a shipment.
Is a battery AIS/SDS the UN 38.3 test summary?
No. The article or safety information sheet and applicable battery test summary serve different purposes. Obtain the documents for the exact battery model; this library does not provide a universal battery certificate.
Is IMCO a separate classification?
IMCO is common commercial shorthand. For packaged dangerous goods by sea, refer to the current IMDG Code and the specific cargo entry.
Does an SDS replace a DG Declaration?
No. The SDS helps review product and transport hazards; it does not replace the required shipment-specific declaration or packing certificate.
Are red-bordered GHS diamonds the transport labels?
No. GHS chemical-supply pictograms and transport labels have distinct purposes. Use the transport labels and marks required for the consignment.
Can the load planner decide DG compatibility?
No. Our CBM and load planner tools estimate space and weight. They do not check IMDG segregation, stowage or acceptance.
